May the Forsus™ be with you: Forsus device as anchorage

The mesial protraction of the second and third lower molar in cases of class II malocclusion adult patient with previous extraction of the first and second molars.

Mandibular molars are lost frequently in adults. Untreated missing permanent molars cause tipping or migration of adjacent teeth with formation of pseudopockets, supraeruption of opposing teeth, and reduced alveolar bone height and width, which lead to collapse of occlusion and considerable periodontal problems. The conventional treatment option for the missing mandibular molars is prosthetic restoration of the missing teeth with a fixed partial denture or dental implants.

An alternative treatment option is the closure of the edentulous space by means of orthodontic protraction of the second and third molars, which eliminates the need for prosthetic work and restores the deficient alveolar bone. Three cases of adult patients will be discussed during the lecture in which space closure has been completed with fixed orthodontic appliance using Forsus as a device for maintaining the lower anterior anchorage without the need for collaboration, keeping in mind that our objective is to ensure the patient optimal aesthetics, appropriate function, oral health and long-term stability.
